Oneill - Josie Clark

Source: Crawfordsville Review, Thursday April 13, 1916

Danville, April 12 -- Mrs. Josie O'NEILL of Crawfordsville and Mrs. TW McCOY of this city, half sisters, met for the first time in their lives today although they have lived within 40 miles of each other for over a half century. Their father Col. John CLARK following the death of his wife, joined the army at the outbreak of the Civil War leaving his child to a family at Attica, Ind. This girl is now Mrs. McCoy of this city. After the war was over Col. Clark went to Crawfordsville where he afterwards remarried and Mrs. O'Neill is the child of this marriage. The father of the two women, who was quite a character around Crawfordsville died about 15 years ago. Men who knew him declared that he had an air of mystery about him during the later years of his life. Mrs O'Neill often heard that she had a half sister living in Danville and was very much interested in her. Not long ago a friend of Mrs. O'Neill became acquainted with Mrs. McCoy and learned of her relationship with the Crawfordsville sister. The mutual friend sent word to Mrs. O'Neill and the reunion was brought about. Mrs. O'Neill is well known in this city being the wife of Flur O'Neill who lives at 1009 College Avenue. Many of the old citizens of this city also remember her father John Clark who died a number of years ago. kbz
